The online BSBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management, offered through the WVU John Chambers College of Business and Economics, is designed to teach students the skills they need to succeed in the worldwide service industry, including careers in hotel and restaurant operations, event planning, or other management fields.
In addition to course work, students participate in internships and learning labs. The program of study covers all aspects of the hospitality and tourism industry from a management perspective and provides a solid foundation in all core business functions, along with specialized courses in the field. The curriculum balances theory and practice with internship requirements that take students around the world. The major has a placement rate of more than 90 percent, largely due to the requirement of two field experience or internship courses. Students who complete their internships successfully can expect full-time job opportunities after graduation.
The Hospitality and Tourism Management major has a placement rate of more than 90%. The success is due to the requirement of two internships as part of the major. Students who completed their internships successfully were given full-time job opportunities after their graduation. For instance, one student completed a College Experience Internship at Disney while she was a junior, and after graduation was selected as a Professional Intern at Disney. Another student was selected for the Marriott Voyage global leadership development program.
Several other students completed internships that led to a full-time jobs, including front desk manager at the Marriott Waterfront Place Hotel, standards specialist at IHG and revenue manager at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
