FIRST-YEAR TRIPS

Adventure WV


Participate in a 5 to 6 day adventure-based trip to meet other incoming first-year students in your college and major. Explore new and exciting adventure activities throughout beautiful West Virginia and surrounding areas. These trips are FREE, earn you college credit, and are only open to incoming students in the Chambers College.

Mountaineer Quest

WHAT: This camp-based, peer-led, 5-day program that prepares incoming students for life at WVU and in WV. All Quest participants will engage in rock climbing, challenge course elements, whitewater rafting and will give back to the local community. Students explore and reflect on their transition to college in small group discussions in the evenings.

WHEN: Students can choose this session open  ONLY to incoming Business & Economics students, allowing you to meet a group of students you’ll be sharing your WVU experience with!

  • Quest 2B: June 26- 30, 2023 (capacity: ~20)

Explore WV 

WHAT: This trip includes a sampling of adventure activities, more time in the great outdoors, and a sense of challenge and accomplishment while visiting some of the most popular places in West Virginia. Students explore and reflect on their transition to college in small group discussions in the evenings.

WHEN: Students can choose one of the two session below, open ONLY to incoming Chambers students, allowing you to meet students you’ll share your WVU experience with.

  • Explore 13A July 15-20th, 2023 (capacity: ~20)

Odyssey WV

WHAT: Participants on Odyssey trips will travel all around the great state of West Virginia, while trying their hand at some of the most outstanding adventure activities the state and surround area have to offer. Students explore and reflect on their transition to college in small group discussions in the evenings.

WHEN: Students can choose the session below, open ONLY to incoming B&E students, allowing you to meet students you’ll share your WVU experience with.

  • Odyssey 23A: July 29- Aug 3, 2023 (capacity: ~20)

HOW MUCH

This program is  FREE FOR YOU! All Adventure WV trips charge a $95 registration fee, however the Chambers College will provide a $95 credit to participating students* for the cost of this trip! We strongly believe in giving students a great first experience at WVU and setting you up for success in your WVU career! (*Students who enroll in the program but drop or don’t participate will be charged the $95 fee). 

WHAT ABOUT NSO? 

This trip is separate from on-campus New Student Orientation (NSO) and does not fulfill your NSO requirement. This trip is separate from your First-Year Seminar that you are required to take as part of your Fall Semester. 

HOW DO I GET A SPOT ON ONE OF THESE PROGRAMS? 

There are limited spots available for this trip! Admitted and students who have paid the academic deposit may register on a first-come, first-served basis beginning early February 2023 at  https://adventurefirstyear.wvu.edu/registration. Please sign up for the waitlist even if the trip is full. Spots may become available throughout the semester.

* This program charges a $95 registration fee to your student account. However, the John Chambers College of Business and Economics will provide a $95 credit to participating students by the end of August 2019. Students who enroll in the program but drop or don’t participate will not receive the credit and will be responsible for paying the $95 fee.
