WVU’s Business Cybersecurity Management Program is a 12-month or 24-month online program. Students attend an orientation residency and an experiential capstone presentation that corresponds with summer graduation.  The online course delivery of the MS CYBR allows students to work in teams with expert faculty conducting hands-on technical labs, learning complex technologies while working with a flexible schedule and location independence.

Please note: The MS CYBR qualifies for Board of Governor's Market Pricing. Please contact Mr. Joey VanDevender at 304-293-2333 for more information.

Although the program requires the learning of challenging technical material, entry into the program does not assume or require depth in technology fields. The program is constructed in such a way as to allow students from all backgrounds to get up to speed quickly, while simultaneously challenging those with deep technical expertise.

COURSES. Coursework in the program includes classes in Business Intelligence, Data Management and Inquiry, Business Information Security Assurance Management, Business Data Communications, Business Network Security, Information Ethics and Legal Procedure, Business Cybercrime Management, Fraud Data Analysis, Business Data Visualization, along with a capstone project class, Business Cybersecurity Practicum.

CURRICULUM AND CERTIFICATES. Students work in teams as well as on individual projects, and the program is built in such a way as to encourage (but not require) the student to pass important industry standard certificates. Thus, a student in the Chambers College MS CYBR degree program can graduate with the master's degree as well as potentially pass certificates such as the CRISC, Network+, Security+, CISA, CEH, and/or CISSP.

JOB MARKET POTENTIAL. The degree addresses the significant need for cybersecurity talent. There are over 209,000 cybersecurity jobs in the US that are not filled, and cybersecurity job postings are up to 74 percent in the last five years, according to a 2015 Bureau of Labor Statistics study. Verizon Corporation reports that all types of businesses are targets of internal and external attackers ranging from small retailers and restaurants to large international financial institutions and manufacturers. Verizon reported in a landmark, multi-year study about 47,000 security incidents exploring 2500 accidental data disclosures and 44 million compromised records. Larger businesses are targeted by organized crime, nation states or activists.

CYBER THREATS ARE REAL. There are a variety of business cyber threats and a variety of potential business responses and controls. The MS CYBER degree is built to equip the motivated student with the toolkit to engage, lead and own the cybersecurity business career path. Cybersecurity threats to businesses are real and these incidents are becoming more severe, costly and escalating over time. Intellectual property theft, credit card fraud, pirated content, data alteration or theft, credit card fraud, malware, ransomware, clickfraud, hacked IoT devices and more are potentially threatening to successful business outcomes (courtesy of Goodman, 2015, Future Crimes:" Inside the Digital Undergroung and the Battle for Our Connected World).

WHY GET AN MS IN BUSINESS CYBERSECURITY? The MS in Business Cybersecurity helps to address this labor shortage for those seeking broad knowledge, spanning the range of Business Cybersecurity topics. It is also known that there is demand for specific skill sets by individuals looking for promotion opportunities, firms seeking to familiarize employees in other fields (e.g., Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, Accounting, and etc.) with business operations related to cybersecurity, and by students who understand that cybersecurity has broad-reaching impacts on just about every component of contemporary business.
