Looking to pursue a creative side of business?

Marketing is an exciting, ever-changing industry that requires key business skills and creativity. Marketing professionals are involved in planning, promoting, pricing, and distributing products and services. The WVU marketing program is designed to give students a strong understanding of the marketing mix elements used by firms to satisfy customer wants and needs. In addition to the foundations of marketing strategy, the required courses integrate digital marketing, professional sales and AI/high-tech aspects of the marketplace to give students an appreciation of how marketing strategies are used in the globalized economy as well as in the public and not-for-profit sector.

Real-world experience

A hallmark of the WVU Marketing Major program is an emphasis on experiential learning. Every marketing course has some kind of practical real world learning opportunities. Some examples include: developing digital marketing plans for businesses/organizations, acquiring online analytics certification, participating in sales competitions and learning how to apply AI and other cutting-edge technology in the marketing strategies. Learning might begin in the classroom but it ends in the real world. Students get to work with global brands such as Coca-Cola and Movado and West Virginian organizations such as Fiesta ware and the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

Meet Andrew Michaud

Andrew Michaud has recently earned a place in Forbes' esteemed 30 Under 30 list, a testament to his co-founding role in Valet Seller. The e-commerce platform, originating in a college dorm room, has grown into a $5 million company. Valet Seller is reshaping e-commerce by assisting brands in showcasing products on major marketplaces, with a notable $2 million revenue in 2022, expected to rise to $3.6 million in 2023.

Andrew, deeply connected to WVU, merged his academic and professional pursuits on campus, drawing inspiration from the iconic WVU logo for Valet Seller's own logo. This serves as a symbol of “how e-commerce, much like education, can unite diverse ideas under a single, cohesive identity,” Andrew expressed, “WVU will forever be a source of inspiration for me. I've never witnessed a community so spirited and united as WVU.”
