Logan Cuvo has stayed busy during his time at Chambers — being a student, entrepreneur, and a CEO has put a lot on his plate.
A lover of hockey from Columbus, Ohio, Cuvo is graduating as an Entrepreneurship and Innovation major. The title of his major perfectly describes his path to success.
With an idea to improve a commonly used product — hockey tape — Cuvo started his company, Best Dam Tape. It was in 2024 when Cuvo worked with Vantage Ventures that things really started moving.
Vantage Ventures is an initiative within Chambers that aims to launch high impact, scalable businesses in the Mountain State. Through its Accelerator Program, participants can receive up to $10,000 in technical assistance for their business and gain access to working space in Reynolds Hall.
With Vantage Ventures serving as a pillar of support, Cuvo was able to develop his small business into a powerhouse. Today, the company sees its products used by multiple NHL teams. Cuvo credits Vantage Ventures for helping get his business to where it is today.
“I was like, ‘Is this real?’ And turned out it was,” Cuvo said. “Vantage definitely set us on a legit path and changed the course of the company.”
The monetary support from Vantage Ventures is a huge help to any entrepreneur in the program, but for Cuvo, Vantage Ventures also helped teach him the essentials of building a business and gave him the opportunities necessary to make his product a hit.
“Learning the little things like raising money, building on a sales pipeline, or just talking to customers and testing your assumptions. A big advantage within Vantage Ventures is the chance to test your boldest assumptions — stress test everything in your company at an early stage before you go to the next level.”
Vantage Ventures isn’t the only thing within Chambers that helped Cuvo in his journey. He also credits his coursework for helping him learn the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.
“Since I’m an Entrepreneurship major, every class I take directly correlates to what I’m doing right now and what I want to do after college. Looking back on it, I realized I’ve learned so much about what it takes to run a business.”
While being a CEO, Cuvo has also found time to be part of several organizations, including serving as President of the Entrepreneurship Club, Director of Rituals at the Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, and being a member of the Alumni Foundation Mentee Program.
With big plans for his company, Cuvo has a lot to look forward to in the immediate future. After attending Walmart’s Open Call in Arkansas, which saw hundreds of small businesses pitch their products, Cuvo received a golden ticket from the company, meaning he will likely see his product on store shelves soon.
“Graduating at 4 p.m. and the full-time job starts at 5 p.m. the same day. Taking Best Dam Tape full time and I’m excited. We’re rolling out with some retail stores and expanding into different sports, too.”
Now facing the future and looking back on his experiences, Cuvo encourages other young entrepreneurs to not give up.
“Those other entrepreneurs didn’t know what they were doing when they started. You’re not gonna know what you’re doing. I didn’t know what I was doing. Entrepreneurship is throwing yourself off a cliff and building the plane on the way down.”
