B&E celebrates 50th anniversary of economics Ph.D. program

WVU’s College of Business and Economics recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the economics Ph.D. program with a two-day event in Morgantown. The April 21-22 event included a variety of events that saw attendees from across the U.S. and around the world.

“This was a terrific event that included program alumni from all over the world,” said Dr. Cliff Hawley, economics chair at B&E. “Jorge Guillen came from Peru, Javed Younas came from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and former professor Ron Balvers came from Canada. Chronologically and geographically, there was a wide spectrum of attendees.”

B&E YPN awards initial Launch Scholarships to MBA and marketing students

The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics established the B&E Young Professional Network in 2014 to engage young alumni. And today, those young alums are giving back through the establishment and initial award of the YPN Launch Scholarship.

B&E YPN is made up of 134 dedicated young alumni under the age of 45 who support the college’s philanthropic efforts through meaningful contributions which, over time, will create a legacy for the future of B&E.

Donald E. Panoz has started astoundingly successful companies all over the world, but his success started in West Virginia in 1961 when he and U.S. Army buddy Milan “Mike” Puskar co-founded what would become globally recognized Mylan Pharmaceuticals.

So when the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics presented Panoz with an honorary doctorate degree in business administration — at Commencement Exercises on May 13 — with 512 graduates — and Panoz spoke to the graduates — well, that makes for a pretty special day.

West Virginia Business Hall of Fame partners with West Virginia Chamber to present annual Business Summit kickoff event

The West Virginia Business Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will kick off the West Virginia Business Summit at The Greenbrier, officials announced today (May 8). The Hall of Fame event will be held on the evening of August 29 at the world-renowned resort, with the 2017 business summit commencing the following day.

“We are so pleased to partner with the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame to present this prestigious event,” said Stephen G. Roberts, president of the West Virginia Chamber, host of the West Virginia Business Summit and Annual Meeting. “For nearly two decades, the Hall of Fame has recognized and honored individuals with a strong West Virginia connection who have made significant contributions to business. This event will be an exciting start to the Business Summit this and every year.”
