Understanding complex material is challenging, but asking for help can be even tougher. That’s where Neidermeyer Scholars like Philippines native Jarell Rimando come in. 

Rimando is a junior Accounting major who last year started in her position as a Neidermeyer Scholar – a student tutor who has previously taken and successfully passed a class that many students struggle with.  The program, named after Dr. Adolph “Ade” Neidermeyer, was established after his retirement to support learning in key business courses through peer-to-peer collaboration.

The Chambers College has partnered with TradingView, a charting service platform used by millions of traders and investors worldwide. This partnership will give Finance students and faculty insights into comprehensive market data from around the world while providing helpful analyses to help them better understand the current market landscape.

“Integrating TradingView into our curriculum provides our finance students with cutting-edge tools to analyze global markets in real-time, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application," said Brant Hammer, teaching assistant professor of finance.

Growing up just 20 minutes from the West Virginia University campus in Morgantown, Finance major Alexandria Spiker was immersed in WVU’s “Let’s Go” culture – an idea she fully embraced. With the support of the Chambers College, Spiker has used her Mountaineer mentality to go far beyond city limits.

It all started her freshman year, in Spiker’s BCOR 199 class. Dr. David Dawley, director of the Robbins Center for Global Business & Strategy, shared the importance of being aware and engaged with the world as a business professional through faculty-led short-term study abroad trips “in countries like Bahrain, Costa Rica, China, Dubai, India, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Guatemala, Kenya, Nepal, Panama, Thailand and the United Kingdom.”

Homebodies, introverts and couch potatoes may be cheered by new West Virginia University research that shows most people overestimate the negative repercussions of declining social invitations because they underestimate others’ empathy for the process of deciding to say “no.”

The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology published conclusions from five studies exploring inviter and invitee perspectives on turning down social invitations.
