Awards of Distinction
The John Chambers College of Business and Economics has developed a procedure to better recognize, reward and encourage continued outstanding performance in teaching, research and service.
The purpose of the "Chambers Awards of Distinction" is to recognize and encourage continued efforts of the individuals who excel in these areas. Departmental award winners are included for consideration. However, nominations are accepted from other sources such as students, alumni, colleagues, etc. Eligible award winners must not have received the specific award in the previous three (3) years.

- Make a Nomination
- Once nominees are notified, they will need to submit supporting documentation. Supervisors may also submit letters of support.
- A committee of faculty and staff will review nominations and select winners.
- All winners will receive a plaque.

Dean's Distinction in Teaching: Full-time Faculty
Eligibility: Any full-time tenure or non-tenure track faculty member of
the College who has not received this award in the past three (3) years. Nominees
should have received an "excellent" in teaching from the Departmental P&T committees.
Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Students are strongly
encouraged to nominate. Departmental award winners are included. Nominations must
include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example, how
their teaching has impacted the student or classroom, innovative teaching techniques,
etc.
Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean's
Awards of Distinction Review Committee.
Dean's Distinction in Teaching: Adjunct Faculty
Eligibility: Any part-time instructor of the College who has taught at B&E for three consecutive semesters and has not received this award in the past three (3) years. Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Students are strongly encouraged to nominate. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example, how their teaching has impacted the student or classroom, innovative teaching techniques, etc. Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.Dean's Distinction in Research
Eligibility: Any full-time employee(s) of the College who has received an "excellent" in research from the Departmental P&T Committee and has at least one A+ publication. Funded research will also be considered. Award winners who have received this award in the previous three (3) years will not be considered. Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Departmental award winners are included. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example, how their research has impacted the academy, raised the profile of the College, etc . Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.Dean's Distinction in Outreach
Eligibility: Any full-time employee of the College who has not received this award in the past three (3) years. Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example how the person has gone beyond their normal job responsibilities to provide exemplary outreach. Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.Dean's Distinction in Service to the College: Faculty
Eligibility: Any full-time faculty member of the College who has not received this award in the past three (3) years. Nominees should have received an "excellent" in service from the Departmental P&T committees. Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example how the person has gone beyond their normal job responsibilities to provide exemplary service to the college, university or profession. Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.Dean's Distinction in Service to the College: Staff
Eligibility: Any full-time staff member of the College who has not received this award in the past three (3) years.Dean's Distinction in DICE: Faculty
Eligibility: Any faculty member of the College who has engaged in DICE (diversity, inclusion, culture, equity) research, service, or programming. Award winners who have received this award in the previous three (3) years will not be considered.
Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Departmental award winners are included. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example, how their service has impacted the WVU or greater community, how their research has impacted DICE within the academy, etc.
Committee: Nominations will be reviewed, and winners selected, with input from the DICE Committee, by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.
Dean's Distinction in DICE: Staff
Eligibility: Any staff member of the College who has engaged in DICE (diversity, inclusion, culture, equity) research, service, or programming. Award winners who have received this award in the previous three (3) years will not be considered.
Nominations: All eligible nominations will be considered. Departmental award winners are included. Nominations must include a description of why the person should receive the award. For example, how their service has impacted the WVU or greater community, how their research has impacted DICE within the academy, etc.
Committee: Nominations will be reviewed, and winners selected, with input from the DICE Committee, by the Dean's Awards of Distinction Review Committee.
Dean’s Distinction in Industrial or Community Engagement in Teaching
Eligibility: Any full-time tenure or non-tenure track faculty member or part-time instructor of the College who has not received this award in the past three (3) years.
Nominations: The winner will demonstrate outstanding engagement with business, non-profit organizations, and/or government organizations in the classroom through guest speaking arrangements and/or class service projects. All eligible nominations will be considered. Such engagement activities must be documented in Digital Measures to be eligible. Students are strongly encouraged to nominate.
Committee: Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by the Dean’s Awards of Distinction Review Committee.
