Real-World Opportunity

Dive into real financial markets and investment portfolio management through the WVU Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). In collaboration between faculty and alumni, all student analysts in SMIF, through the Applied Investment Management course, work with real money, explore financial institutions on Wall Street and visit the floor of the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ.

Our three-course series offers an unparalleled learning experience, starting with FIN 293A: Introduction to Investing.

The $100,000 Opportunity: Reach the pinnacle of your learning journey in the third course, where you and your team will have the opportunity to manage a $100,000 real money portfolio. Apply your knowledge, develop strategies, and experience the thrill of real-world investing! 

New 3-Course Investing Sequence starting in Spring 2024 -  1 credit hours each

  1. Introduction to Investing I (FIN 293A) – no pre-requisite, open to all majors
  2. Introduction to Investing II (FIN 293B) – pre-req.: FIN 293A or FIN 310 (starting spring 2024)
  3. Experiential Investing (Manage a $100,000 real money portfolio): FIN 293B or FIN 310 (Fall 2024)
