Ethics and Econ Summer Program 2024

Bringing educators together from across West Virginia to investigate fundamental concepts in Ethics and Economics.

Thank you for your interest. All inquiries from this point forward will be considered for the Summer 2025 Workshop. We have tentatively selected June 15-19 for the workshop and June 22-26 for the in-person portions of the scheduled graduate courses

Four-day workshop of talks, activities, and colloquia

  • When: Sunday, June 16-Thursday, June 20, 2024
  • Where: Morgantown, WV
  • Why: Bring educators together from across West Virginia to sample fundamental concepts in Ethics and Economics. Attendees can expect to get a deeper perspective on how ethical and economic concepts help decision makers choose wisely. Participants may even want to explore options for continued study.

Workshop Schedule

The workshops have the same daily schedule. We begin on Sunday evening with a reception and dinner and conclude on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. We work hard but also respect your time. We know you need time to relax, take meals, and enjoy catered breaks. The only evening commitment is the Sunday dinner; all other evenings are on your own.

Activities

The bulk of the workshop is conducted Monday through Thursday with four sessions each day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon, with breakfast snacks, lunch and breaks included.

Sessions end each day by 5 p.m., with exception of 4 p.m. on Thursday to give people more time to head home.

Stipend and other benefits

We offer accommodations, meals, and a $900 stipend for West Virginia educators who fully participate in the workshop.

In addition to the stipend, participants also receive;

  • advance reading materials,
  • individual hotel room for Sunday through Wednesday nights,
  • complimentary meals and breaks associated with the workshop.




Venue

Hotel
You will be staying at a nearby historic hotel within walking distance (less than 1 mile) of the workshop.

The workshops will be held at Reynolds Hall, the Chamber's College of Business and Economic's new home that sits on an iconic, riverfront site on the Downtown campus with views of the Monongahela River.

Parking/Transport
The hotel will have parking. The workshop will be within walking distance of the hotel.

Explore MS Econ at WVU

Just for West Virginia Teachers.

Full scholarships worth over $28,950 available to WV educators to pursue an MS Economics degree at WVU. You will choose between two areas of emphasis: Empirical Economics and Political Economy. Each area requires ten courses, or thirty hours.

Scholarship applications will be distributed and collected during the workshop.
