AI Meets HRM

Olga

Olga Bruyaka, PhD is a scholar of strategy and innovation whose research examines how firms’ investments in new technologies shape organizational performance and market outcomes (see her Google Scholar profile). Her current work on artificial intelligence (AI), conducted in collaboration with Lily Morse and Arkadiy Lenchak (University of Denver) investigates whether—and when—corporate communication about AI during earnings calls matters to investors. Analyzing more than a decade of earnings calls, this research shows that firms that discuss AI tend to see positive stock market reactions, particularly when their prior R&D investments and operational capabilities make those AI claims more credible.

Dr. Bruyaka is a Guest Editor of two Special Issues on AI: At Long Range Planningjournal, she is leading the special issue “Navigating the Paradoxes of Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Strategy Theory and Practice", which explores key trade-offs associated with AI, including human-machine interactions, shifts in decision-making, and the implications of AI for creativity and innovation. At Technovationjournal, she is co-editing the special issue “AI and Cooperation: Towards a New Era in Inter-Organizational Relationships, which focuses on how AI is transforming inter-organizational collaborations.

fields

Jamie Field's research program focuses on organizational research methods (e.g., meta-science, open science) and OB/HR (e.g., cross-cultural differences, employee motivation) topics. Dr. Field is collaborating with the Center for Open Science on an initiative supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) program, Systematizing Confidence in Open Research and Evidence (SCORE). This project aims to develop and implement automated tools that generate rapid, scalable, and accurate confidence scores for research claims. These scores are quantitative measures designed to help researchers, funders, policymakers, and other consumers of scientific evidence better understand the reproducibility and replicability of research findings, ultimately clarifying the level of uncertainty associated with scientific claims.

Houghton

Jeff Houghton is an expert in self-leadership and organizational behavior, having published an impressive number of academic papers and authored three popular textbooks. His latest research on the topic of AI, co-authored with Joseph Avery, Christopher B. Neck, and Hayden Sliger, is titled ' Self-Leadership and Creative Process Engagement in the Age of AI: The Moderating Role of Generative AI Integration and the Mediating Influence of Creative Self-Efficacy in Organizational Settings .'

Hu

Xiaoxiao Hu, PhD conducts research in organizational behavior and human resource management. In collaboration with scholars at the Amsterdam Business School and the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, she is conducting multiple research projects examining employees’ perceptions of, attitudes toward, and adoption of AI in the workplace. Additionally, she works with DBA students Ryan Roberts and Danielle Tostado to explore the intersection of AI with leadership and mentorship, and how these dynamics shape employee performance and well-being.

Angus

Ryan Angus and his DBA student – Patrick Garren, MPH jointly work on the AI-related research project titled " Framing Artificial Intelligence as Automated vs. Augmented: Exploring Perceptions and Impacts on Technological Adoption – A Qualitative Study ," and based on the data from interviews with employees across various departments in the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. These interviews touch upon employees’ perceptions of and involvement with the implementation of a new AI-capable Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS). This project aims to uncover the intricacies related to how framing this CTMS, as automated versus augmented, impacts employee receptivity and subsequent utilization of AI.
