Douglas R. Van Scoy
In 1974, Doug went to work for the investment firm of Smith Barney, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
Doug Van Scoy, a 1961 graduate of Bridgeport High School, received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from West Virginia University. After completing a stint in the U.S. Army, he started his investment career in 1969 with Blyth, Eastman, Dillon.
He held various positions and ended his career as Deputy Director and Senior Executive Vice President of Smith Barney. In that position, Doug was on the management committee and part of the team responsible for managing the Private Client Group with revenues of $7 billion, 500 branch offices and 12,000 financial consultants. During his career, he served on the board of Robinson Humphrey, and earned the leadership award from the Georgia Securities Association in 1994.
Doug is presently founder and partner of Pit Partners, a hospitality business in South Carolina, where he and his partners own and operate several restaurants. He is also a partner in two restaurants located in Morgantown, West Virginia. Doug has served as a trustee and chairman of the Galloway School in Atlanta and a trustee of the University of Richmond, and is currently on the board of directors of Sterling Asset Management.
Additionally, Doug has served as a board member and chairman of the West Virginia University Alumni Association, and currently serves on the West Virginia University Foundation Board.
