D. Stephen Walker is the retired president and CEO of Cecil I Walker Machinery Company, a family business primarily located in Charleston West Virginia, with branches in western West Virginia and southeastern Ohio. Walker-Machinery was founded in 1949 as a heavy equipment distributor. In 1953, it was awarded the Caterpillar dealership from western West Virginia and southeastern Ohio.

Walker’s career spanned 39 years at Walker Machinery, 25 years as its president and CEO. The company was sold in 2010 to a neighboring Caterpillar dealer and Walker retired.  At the time of the sale, the company enjoyed the highest market share for Cat Dealers in North America. The main industries the company serviced were the coal, natural gas, industrial, construction and timber industries.

Walker is a 1967 marketing graduate of the WVU College of Business and Economics. After serving in the U.S. Army National Guard and Reserves, Walker received his J.D. degree in 1971 from the West Virginia College of Law.

In his business career, Walker served on several industry boards of directors. He was a longtime member of the board of directors for the Contractors Association of West Virginia and the West Virginia Coal Association. He also served on the board of the West Virginia Surface Mine Association. Prior to its purchase by Huntington Bank, he served on the board of The National Bank of Commerce in Charleston, West Virginia. He was admitted to the Bar in West Virginia. He served on several nonprofit boards, was past chairman of the West Virginia State University Foundation and served on the board of trustees for West Virginia Wesleyan College.

D. Stephen Walker was inducted into the West Virginia Coal Hall of Fame in 2016.

Walker is married to Diane Hunt Walker and they have two children —  Brad of Charleston, West Virginia, and Mary of Charlottesville, Virginia. He enjoys golf, being with friends and family, and travelling.
