A Charleston, WV, native, D. Stephen Walker entered the family business of Walker Machinery, a Caterpillar, Inc. dealer for western West Virginia and southeast Ohio, in 1971. He became President and Chief Operating Officer in 1983 and remained so until the sale of the business and his retirement in 2010.

Walker is a 1967 graduate of the WVU School of Business and Economics and a 1971 graduate of the WVU School of Law in 1971.

He has been married to Diane Hunt Walker, a University of South Carolina gradate, for 45 years and they have two adult children: Brad, of Charleston, and Mary of Charlottesville, Va.

Mr. Walker was a member of the WV Army National Guard and also the US Army Reserve. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of WV Wesleyan College and was a member and a former Chairman of the WVU School of Business Visiting Committee. He remains active on the Board of the WV State University Foundation where he has served two terms as its Chairman. During his working career Walker was involved with many business and industry groups and charitable organizations. He enjoys golf, being with friends and family and traveling.
