Social Media
Social Media Policy for Faculty & Staff
At the Chambers College, our brand is one of our most valuable assets—and every message we share contributes to how people perceive our college, our students, and our impact. To ensure consistency, clarity, and professionalism in how we present ourselves online, we’ve established the following social media guidelines.
Why Social Media Policies Matter
- Brand Integrity: A unified voice strengthens our brand, builds trust with prospective students, partners, and the community, and reinforces our position as a leader in business education.
- Message Consistency: Centralizing social media efforts ensures accurate, timely, and aligned messaging across platforms.
- Strategic Amplification: Leveraging a coordinated approach allows us to amplify important news, stories, and successes more effectively through official channels that can have the widest reach.
- And most importantly, Liability: Any account that posts content on behalf of WVU (including personal accounts) are legally liable to the same standards as the University. Accessibility is an evolving section of the law that is hard to keep up with. Leave that up to us!
Official Unit Accounts
To maintain brand standards and ensure compliance with university guidelines, official social media accounts representing departments, programs, labs, centers or units should not be created or maintained outside of the Chambers College Strategic Communications and Marketing Team.
- This includes Facebook pages, Twitter/X accounts, Instagram profiles, LinkedIn pages, and other public-facing platforms that use the College or WVU branding.
- If you already have an account in use, please contact us for review.
What You Can Do
We want you to share and celebrate what’s happening in your classrooms, research, events, and student success stories—and we encourage you to use your personal or professional social media accounts to do so.
Here’s how we can work together:
- Post from your personal or professional accounts about your work, research, events, student experiences, or College-related achievements.
- Tag us or mention the College (@wvuchambers) when relevant—we’ll amplify from our official accounts when appropriate.
- Send us leads! We welcome your ideas for content—submit social media leads, stories, student spotlights, research news, and events for possible inclusion in our content calendar.
- When you post to your account, don't use WVU logos or apparent branding.
Exceptions
We understand that certain initiatives, centers, or externally funded projects may require a distinct social media presence.
- Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis and must be coordinated with the Strategic Communications and Marketing Team.
- Requests will be evaluated based on audience, purpose, sustainability, and alignment with the College’s brand and voice.
