Guatemala:
The Business of Coffee and Mayan Culture

This seven-day study abroad experience emphasizes Guatemala’s coffee bean business and Mayan culture. Our time will be spent in Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and the Pacific coast town of Monterrico.  Along the way, students will visit two coffee bean farms and have an up close view of the plants, picking, processing, sampling, quality control, preparation for shipping, and marketing. In Antigua, you will experience cobblestone streets, colorful colonial architecture, and a vibrant culture set against the backdrop of surrounding volcanoes. Our visit to Lake Atitlán will offer breathtaking views of a crystal-blue lake surrounded by towering volcanoes and vibrant Mayan villages, blending natural beauty with rich cultural traditions. Our last full day and night will be spent in Monterrico, where you will find a laid-back escape with black volcanic sand beaches, Pacific Ocean waves, and a chance to see sea turtles in a relaxed coastal setting.
