Application Process

Interested faculty must provide the following: 

The proposal documents should be combined into a single PDF file and emailed to Joshua Meadows at jtmeadows@mail.wvu.edu by midnight April 15, 2024. No late applications will be considered.

  1. A current curriculum vitae or resume 
  2. A letter of interest. A letter of interest explaining their desire to be part of the program and why they feel they would be a good champion for utilization climate data, innovation, design and climate education through NOAA resources. 
  3. A proposal. A proposal, not to exceed 2 pages, detailing plans for infusing of climate data into an existing course. 
    • Explanation of how their course would benefit from the incorporation of NOAA datasets. Make specific reference to the existing syllabus, course objectives, expected learning outcomes and possible course activities. 
    • Ideas for an assignment or activity that will incorporate the NOAA data set and problems that might be solved through exploration of the data. 
    • All proposals should describe the target audience (preference is given to proposals that allow students from multiple majors to participate) and expected number of students served. Proposals with strong experiential learning and/or problem-based learning components will be given preference. 
    • Proposal should provide specific details of the assignments that would incorporate weather data and the analytical tools that will be used to analyze the data. 
    • A statement that the class will incorporate entrepreneurial tools and/or lecture to augment the curriculum and that students will be strongly encouraged to participate in a showcase that would take place in April of 2025. 
  4. Availability to Participate in Training 

    The faculty member’s availability to participate in training May 2024, is required for participation in this program. The training will include presentations from NOAA education specialists, entrepreneurship experts and program administration.

  5. Memo of Acknowledgement        

    Memo(s) of acknowledgement (can be an email) from both the faculty member’s division/department chair and the dean should include the following: 

    • A statement that, if selected, the faculty member will deliver the course or activity to the described audience in the 2024-2025 academic year.  

Selection Criteria 

The proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee. Top candidates will be invited to interview with members of the selection committee.    

  • Integration of data sets into existing courses including: 
  • Clearly defined course/project objectives  
  • Expected learning outcomes 
  • Potential activities and projects - especially those that include experiential and problem-based learning. 
  • Credit towards a degree program.
  • Anticipated number, level and major of the students served.
  • Faculty member’s enthusiasm for the program and ability to collaborate with the cohort.

Notifications will be made on or before April 22, 2024.
