Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAT)

The GMAT measures general verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing skills, and is designed to help predict a student's potential for academic performance.  Undergraduate field of study will not affect a test-taker's GMAT score. We suggest that you take a few months to study for the GMAT and sit for the test in the autumn prior to the year in which you apply, so that if a re-take is necessary, you will have sufficient time to schedule it.  In West Virginia, the test is administered in Morgantown and Charleston. Scores are valid for five years from the date of the test.

Graduate Record Examinations (GRE)

The GRE revised General Test features question types that closely reflect the kind of thinking you'll do in graduate or business school.

  • Verbal Reasoning — Measures your ability to analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained from it, analyze relationships among component parts of sentences and recognize relationships among words and concepts.
  • Quantitative Reasoning — Measures problem-solving ability, focusing on basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
  • Analytical Writing — Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, specifically your ability to articulate and support complex ideas clearly and effectively.

The GRE revised General Test is available at more than 850 test centers in more than 160 countries. In most regions of the world, the computer-delivered test is available on a continuous basis throughout the year. In Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, the computer-delivered test is available one to three times per month. In areas of the world where computer-delivered testing is not available, the paper-delivered test is available up to three times a year in October, November and February.
