Student Profile: Avery Gunter

He says he has a hard time saying where his home base is between North Carolina and West Virginia. That’s because Avery Gunter has found a love for his home of 10 years in Morgantown.

Avery is a senior double-major in finance and accounting, and as his life outside of college is about to begin, he finds himself busier than ever, whether it’s going to Cooper’s Rock to hike or attending on-campus lectures between classes.

Student Profile: Maria Lombardi

It is difficult to find an underclassman that is more socially and academically engaged than Maria Lombardi. A sophomore double-major in entrepreneurship and innovation and finance, Maria is busy enough with her school work. Yet, she still finds time to be part of business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, a sorority member of Alpha Xi Delta, an SGA college representative, and more—and she holds positions in most of them.

Student Profile: Elizabeth Blemings

From leading and founding clubs to interning to managing investment funds, this double-major senior in Finance and Economics does it all. Elizabeth Blemings bleeds gold and blue and represents what the John Chambers College of Business and Economics is all about.

Elizabeth is a part of the Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF), a fund run by a team of student analysists who manage real money and discuss markets in real time. The team goes to New York City each semester, connecting with WVU alumni in industry and to meet with different financial institutions.

WVU students join West Virginia-based MVB at Nasdaq closing bell

class at nasdaqMORGANTOWN, W.Va. — When Fairmont, West Virginia-based MVB Financial Corp. rang the Nasdaq closing bell in New York City on March 28, you could hear that bell all the way back at West Virginia University.

The present met the past at Nasdaq that day, as finance students at the WVU College of Business and Economics joined MVB officials — many of whom are B&E alumni — at the podium for the ceremonial ringing. It had already been a big week for the business school students, who had also visited the New York Stock Exchange, globally recognized financial companies and alumni such as Wall Street executive Penni Roll, a B&E alumna who is CFO of Ares Capital Corporation in New York.
