B&E Alumni Hospitality Tent at WVU Homecoming October 6

The College of Business and Economics will host a hospitality tent on October 6 in Tent City below Milan Puskar Stadium. Alumni are welcome to stop by the tent for food and camaraderie starting at 10:00 a.m., two hours before kickoff. The Mountaineers will take on the Kansas Jayhawks in the Homecoming Game.

2018 West Virginia Business Hall of Fame Inductions


The West Virginia University College of Business and Economics hosted the 17th West Virginia Business Hall of Fame on August 28 at The Greenbrier. This year’s inductees included Linda Arnold, founder and former chairman and CEO of The Arnold Agency, Charleston, West Virginia; Andrew J. Paterno, CEO of Centurion Insurance Services, LLC, Charleston, West Virginia; and Brad Smith, chairman and CEO of Inuit, San Francisco Bay, California.

Charbonnette, Vitullo appointed to new leadership positions at B&E

Javier Reyes, B&E Milan Puskar Dean, has announced the appointments of Dr. Elizabeth Vitullo to 

“Our business school is evolving, and it’s important to have the right people in the right places to meet and anticipate the demands of the college,” said Reyes. “Dr. Vitullo will become part of the operation of the Dean’s Office in her role as Assistant Dean of Strategic Initiatives. In this role, she will work to make sure that we look around the corners, that we have someone looking through the windshield and not the rearview mirror. Liz will help B&E align resources in the college and connect them across campus and with partners outside of the university to ensure that we continue to provide excellent learning experiences and produce top quality research, while responding to global business challenges and opportunities.

WVU alumni establish scholarship, enrichment fund to honor retired business school professor

Professor Robert S. MaustThe former students of a staple in the West Virginia University Department of Accounting are giving back to the College and University to honor his work and to look to the future of the industry. The gift is given in honor of Professor Robert S. Maust, who retired in 2013 after more than 50 years at theCollege of Business and Economics and made a tremendous impact on the lives of countless accounting students.

Among those former students is John Wilson, a 1989 Master of Accountancy graduate, partner at Schmidt & Wilson LLC in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, and owner of Cox Well Service, LLC, in Spencer, West Virginia, worked directly with Maust as a graduate assistant during his time at WVU, and said Maust helped shape his career. Recently, Wilson made a generous gift to establish an endowed scholarship fund, the Professor Robert Maust Scholarship. Recipients of the Professor Robert Maust Scholarship must be undergraduate students enrolled full-time at B&E and majoring in accounting.  

B&E enters the online, undergraduate degree arena — with a bang

The College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University had been careful about how it wanted to enter the crowded arena of offering online undergraduate degrees. Its first offering was an undergraduate general business degree program that started with the Fall 2018 semester two weeks ago, and all indications are that having a little patience is a good thing.

“We were hoping that our first class of online general business students would have in the neighborhood of 20 students,” said Rachel Nieman, Director of Recruitment & Retention at B&E. “To our pleasant surprise, we have 25 students in the class. There is a mix of traditional-aged and non-traditional students in the program.”

Students at Career FairThe College of Business and Economics Career Fair is less than two months away, and presents an opportunity for alumni to hire top talent coming out of the College.

“The B&E Career Fair is a great reminder that our alumni can make valuable connections with their alma mater by hiring graduating students,” said Kellyn Smith, director for B&E’s Center for Career Development. “Current students are the benefactors of better resources than ever, ranging from networking and professional development activities, experiential learning inside and outside the classroom, and countless opportunities that lend themselves to overall career preparedness. We encourage our alumni to take a look at our students for internships and fulltime employment.”

B&E and WVU Extension host annual 4-H Business Camp

Kids at Business CampLast week (July 22-25), high school students from around the globe experienced various business majors and explored careers in the world of business at the second annual 4-H Business Camp cohosted by the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics and WVU Extension Service.

Students had an immersive WVU experience throughout the duration of the camp, staying in dorms, exploring Morgantown and the campus, and visiting the WVU Student Rec Center, Outdoor Education Center and other locations around town.
