The West Virginia University Foundation recently elected three alumni to its board of directors, two of whom are graduates of the College of Business and Economics.
The two West Virginia University B&E alumni include Dee Ann Remo, chief executive officer and managing director of Heritage Wealth Advisors in Richmond, Virginia, and William “Bill” Sheedy, Global Executive, Corporate Strategy, M&A, and Government Relations for Visa, Inc.
“We are thrilled to have Dee Ann and Bill joining us, both of whom are highly successful B&E graduates,” said Cynthia L. Roth, president and CEO of the WVU Foundation. “Our Foundation board of directors is comprised of very talented, generous leaders who freely give of their time, talent and treasure to help us fulfill our mission in serving the University. Both Dee Ann and Bill care very deeply for their alma mater, and we look forward to their board participation where they will lend their passion and expertise to help WVU reach new levels.”
Before joining Heritage Wealth Advisors, Remo spent 17 years with KPMG. She has more than 28 years of experience providing wealth management planning and services. Remo graduated magna cum laude from WVU in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from B&E. Her husband, Jim, and the couple’s children, Ben and Sarah, also are WVU graduates.
Sheedy sits on Visa’s executive committee and currently leads the global payment system’s corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions efforts, global policy and government relations. In this role, he is responsible for charting the company’s strategic direction and driving growth; expanding the company’s relationships with governments and regulators globally; and leading critical initiatives and transactions with clients and partners around the world, with a particular focus on Europe. He has been with Visa since 1993. Sheedy earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from B&E in 1988. He and his wife, Patti, reside with their three children in San Mateo, California.
Each will serve a three-year term on the WVU Foundation board.
“It is very humbling and very exciting to be joining the WVU Foundation,” Remo said. “The opportunity given to us as a family at West Virginia University and at the College of Business and Economics plays an important role in our lives. When I think of the successes of so many people I knew from WVU, it is clear to me that their years at WVU played a meaningful role in all that they have accomplished. Therefore, it is a great honor to be asked to serve on the Foundation board. This opportunity is important in shaping the future of the university and B&E, and it matters very much to me and to our entire family that we are able to give back.”
“I feel exceptionally honored that President Roth asked me to join the WVU Foundation board,” said Sheedy. “Over the past few years, I’ve welcomed an opportunity to get more involved at B&E and the university. I took too long a break from Morgantown after graduating in 1988, so I’m excited to have an opportunity to work with the rest of the board on the mission of the Foundation, as well as support Dean (Javier) Reyes as he takes WVU’s business school to the next level.”
The WVU Foundation, founded in 1954, enriches the lives of those touched by WVU by maximizing private charitable support and providing services to the University and its affiliated organizations. It is currently conducting A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University, which runs through December 2017.
