What does global supply chain management have in common with the healthcare industry? The answer, as you can imagine, is a lot due in large part to the products providers use to treat patients. However, our students were eager to learn more about supply chain roles within the health system and saw an opportunity with Mon Health Medical Center.

Students in the Global Supply Chain Management program of West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics now have choices when it comes to building their professional skills through student organizations. This semester, WVU started its own student affiliate chapter of the Association for Supply Chain Management.
Founded in 1957 as the American Production and Inventory Control Society, APICS is the largest non-profit association for supply chain and is considered the global leader in supply chain organizational transformation, innovation and leadership. The student affiliate chapter is under the supervision of the APICS Pittsburgh Chapter and will receive its charter on Feb. 26.
This fall, West Virginia University's John Chambers College of Business and Economics will accept the first group of students into its online master’s program in economics. The master’s in economics is a one-year full-time program, split into 10 credits per semester over three semesters.
“I think it fits nicely with what we’re doing with all of the graduate professional programs in terms of experiential education,” said Joshua Hall, chair of the Department of Economics. “I’m working with a number of state-based organizations and government entities on the capstone program.”
Each spring, the Corporate Social Responsibility class within West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics offers monetary grants to support community initiatives, and non-profit agencies serving the greater Morgantown area are encouraged to apply for the 2020 grant.
“Part of the objective of the class is to learn to function as a Board of Directors who have operations over this foundation of money,” said Suzanne Gosden Kitchen, assistant chair of the Department of Management. “They have to figure out how to get agencies to apply for the money, and then they have to make deliberations on how to award out the money."
West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics is launching a new graduate program to meet the booming healthcare industry’s current and future need for professionals with strong foundations in effective business practices through the lens of healthcare.
