With her freshman year now behind her, business major Madelyn Oberschmidt has already proven that she will be an outstanding student in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics — all while being an athlete.

Madelyn Oberschmidt hails from Wilmington, Delaware, but it didn’t take her long to figure out where she fits in Morgantown, West Virginia. 

With her freshman year now behind her, this business major has already proven that she will be an outstanding student in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics — all while being an athlete.

She was recruited for WVU Women’s Rowing after participating in the sport her entire high school career. Now fully involved, Madelyn said her days can often be as long as 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. And she loves it.

“While this may seem exhausting, it is very rewarding because I get to wake up every morning and participate in the sport I love, and then spend my time in the classroom working toward my career as a healthcare administrator,” she said.

As you can tell, Madelyn has already found what she wants to do with her career, too. She knows her management degree will be perfect preparation for her to go into healthcare administration, where she said she has always had a passion.

Madelyn also realizes that through the help of the Chambers College, specifically at the Academic engagement Success Center, where she can work on her skills in mock interviews and review her resume, she is readying herself for her career.

And, as if she does not do enough already, Madelyn has also been a strategy and development intern for Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington for the past three years, where she is getting even more career experience.

For now, Madelyn said she is focused mainly on her academics and the rowing team, as she still has time to build her portfolio before graduation in a few years. As summer approaches, her plans are to intern again at the children’s hospital and to job shadow at an insurance company.

With her energy and drive and the resources at the Chambers College, Madelyn said she’ll be career-ready when she earns her degree.
