Collegiate Business Plan Competition FAQs

Do you have a product idea you want to bring to life or a unique business plan? This is the year to start your entrepreneurial journey!

Students win money to support their business idea in the Collegiate Business Plan Competition

The 2022-23 West Virginia Collegiate Business Plan Competition (WVBPC) provides college students throughout the state of West Virginia with the unique opportunity to make a business idea come to life with the support of state institutions of higher education and investors from around the country. The competition awards technical assistance funding each year to eager entrepreneurs in West Virginia.

All you need is one idea and a 90-second YouTube video to enter by Friday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) to be considered.

I don’t have a business plan, can I still enter?

Yes! Business plans do not come into play until the third round. In round one, you are pitching your idea via YouTube video.

What do I win?

Real money. You pitch for what you need: legal support, prototyping, manufacturing, etc. You will also have the opportunity to pitch to venture capitalists and angel investors (think SharkTank) for additional funding.

Do you take in equity in my business?

No. The competition does not take any equity in your business. Winnings are taxable.

Can I enter a nonprofit idea?

Still not sure where you should start? Visit the website for more information regarding the application process, formulating ideas and writing a business plan. You are also welcome to send a direct message to @wvbusinessplan if you have any questions!
