Let's Talk Business: Go Further with Chambers College Clubs

There's a lot to love about the clubs in the Chambers College. Here's a peek inside the Hospitality Club.

Have you ever gotten to go to an indoor waterpark on an experiential learning trip? What about a “career in sports” night with MLB professionals? How about a resort with a holiday feast and a jazz performance?

Well, the WVU Hospitality Club gets to do all this and more!

We work to extend learning opportunities for those interested in hospitality, tourism, or any related industry, and offer site visits to businesses where we often stay the night, experience activities at the property, have a site tour and have in-depth conversations with management. These trips help improve knowledge of the different aspects of the industry and connect our students with potential job and internship opportunities.

In the past year we’ve traveled to Oglebay, Pittsburgh Pirates Career in Sports Night, Boston Beanery, Snowshoe Ski Resort, Stonewall Resort and Smokin J’s. My personal favorite experience was a trip to Kalahari Resort and Convention center last February!

During this trip we had a full day to enjoy one of the largest indoor water parks in the country and eat dinner at one of their restaurants, B-Lux. The next morning, we met with members of their management team including the general manager, human resources director, waterpark supervisor and front desk supervisor. We got a comprehensive tour of the property, including the waterpark, 200,000 square foot convention center and all 7 restaurant venues.

I’m obviously biased because the Hospitality Club is awesome, but joining any student organization and getting involved as an active participant is a great opportunity for both your college experience and your future career. All of the clubs in Chambers College work to help their members and offer the best experiences possible to help them enrich their education!
