Nominations are now open for the 2020 class of the John Chambers College of Business and Economics Roll of Distinguished Alumni at West Virginia University. Individuals interested in submitting a nomination may do so through May 29.

To date, 42 Chambers College graduates have been inducted into the Roll of Distinguished Alumni. The College initiated this award in 2011 to coincide with its 60th Anniversary Collection. New members are added each year to recognize the success of outstanding Chambers College graduates. 

West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics has made great strides when it comes to the retention of freshman students, and it shows with an increase in retention numbers this spring.

The retention rate for Fall 2019-Spring 2020 is 94.6 percent, up from 91.5 percent last year. The University retention rate for this same time period is 92.5 percent.

West Virginia University's new Seed WV program will give away up to $15,000 at the University’s Demo Day.

The contest, which is being held to raise awareness for the Seed WV program both on campus and throughout the state, will offer a cash award to innovators and entrepreneurs with ideas for new products and services. The contest is open to West Virginia residents, innovators, entrepreneurs, businesses and non-profits.

Former Intuit CEO Brad Smith will be giving a public lecture at 5:30 p.m. on March 5 at Vantage Ventures. His talk is entitled “Education and Entrepreneurship — A Blueprint for the 21st Century.”

West Virginia University's John Chambers College of Business and Economics and the WVU College of Law are holding a joint Distinguished Speaker Series featuring Kimberly A. Reed, president and chairman of the Board of Directors of the federal Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM). 

The event will be held on Monday, March 2, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Marlyn E. Lugar Courtroom at the WVU College of Law.

What does global supply chain management have in common with the healthcare industry? The answer, as you can imagine, is a lot due in large part to the products providers use to treat patients. However, our students were eager to learn more about supply chain roles within the health system and saw an opportunity with Mon Health Medical Center.

Students in the Global Supply Chain Management program of West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics now have choices when it comes to building their professional skills through student organizations. This semester, WVU started its own student affiliate chapter of the Association for Supply Chain Management.

Founded in 1957 as the American Production and Inventory Control Society, APICS is the largest non-profit association for supply chain and is considered the global leader in supply chain organizational transformation, innovation and leadership. The student affiliate chapter is under the supervision of the APICS Pittsburgh Chapter and will receive its charter on Feb. 26.

This fall, West Virginia University's John Chambers College of Business and Economics will accept the first group of students into its online master’s program in economics. The master’s in economics is a one-year full-time program, split into 10 credits per semester over three semesters.

“I think it fits nicely with what we’re doing with all of the graduate professional programs in terms of experiential education,” said Joshua Hall, chair of the Department of Economics. “I’m working with a number of state-based organizations and government entities on the capstone program.”

Each spring, the Corporate Social Responsibility class within West Virginia University’s John Chambers College of Business and Economics offers monetary grants to support community initiatives, and non-profit agencies serving the greater Morgantown area are encouraged to apply for the 2020 grant.

“Part of the objective of the class is to learn to function as a Board of Directors who have operations over this foundation of money,” said Suzanne Gosden Kitchen, assistant chair of the Department of Management. “They have to figure out how to get agencies to apply for the money, and then they have to make deliberations on how to award out the money."
